KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) will conduct a voting simulation exercise for registered electors in the St. Andrew North Western constituency and the Norman Gardens division on Saturday, February 24. The exercise is aimed at demonstrating to electors how the Electronic Voter Identification System (EVIS) to be used in the March 5 By-Elections works.
The event will be held at the Pembroke Hall High School and the Windward Road Primary and Junior High School from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Electors will be given an opportunity to experience how their identity will be verified on Election Day using their fingerprint. At the same time, the exercise allows Election Day Workers to practise using the system in an environment similar to Election Day. Through these exercises, the EOJ is also able to evaluate the performance of the EVIS system ahead of the elections.
The exercise, therefore, is expected to reduce apprehension toward the system and ensure a more efficient process come March 5.
Electors registered to vote in the St. Andrew North Western constituency and the Norman Gardens division of Kingston East and Port Royal are encouraged to take advantage of this chance to become familiar with the EVIS system.
