The Electronic Voter Identification System

The Electoral Office of Jamaica has implemented the Electronic Voter Identification System (EVIS), formerly Electronic Voter Identification and Ballot Issuing System (EVIBIS). With EVIS, registered electors will be identified and verified at the polling station by using their fingerprints. The elector will then be issued a ballot by the Presiding Officer and will proceed to mark the “X” with a pencil on the paper ballot issued.

The main objectives of EVIS are to prevent:

(1) Impersonation of an elector

(2) Multiple voting by persons

(3) The use of unauthenticated ballots
