Dear Editor:
I write to you in response to an article published in the Sunday Gleaner on June 25, 2017. The article entitled ‘Container load of trouble. Warning: Growing trend of using containers to house businesses could be dangerous’ includes a photograph (placed prominently at the top of the page) of the Electoral Office of Jamaica’s (EOJ) Western Kingston Registration Centre in Heroes Circle.
While the article does not explicitly implicate the EOJ, it may be misconstrued that we are among entities that may be in breach of the law and building code stipulations as it relates to the establishment and operation of business inside refurbished containers.
I would, therefore, like to use this medium to indicate that the EOJ has been judicious in ensuring that we remain compliant with the law; including securing the requisite permits from the Kingston and St. Andrew Corporation (KSAC). We have also taken the necessary steps to ensure the safety and comfort of our staff as well as persons who do business with us in all our offices.
