KINGSTON, JAMAICA – An additional 19,849 persons are now eligible to vote following the publication of the May 31, 2017, voters’ list by the Electoral Commission of Jamaica (ECJ). The list now contains the names of 1,888,168 registered voters overall.

A total of 1, 926 individuals who are no longer eligible to vote (including deceased electors) were removed from the voters’ list. The previous list was published on December 31, 2016, with 1,870,245 names, signifying a net increase of 17,923.

Identification cards for voters added to the May 31 list are scheduled to become available by mid-June and should be collected by electors at their respective Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) constituency office. The ID cards will bear a 2017 expiry date and, like all current Elector Registration ID cards, are valid until December 31, 2017.

Renewal of ID cards
The ECJ is planning to commence a house-to-house enumeration exercise during the current financial year, following which, a new voters’ list will be published. New cards will be produced at the end of the exercise. All existing ID cards will remain valid until the completion of the exercise. The ECJ will issue a comprehensive statement on the exercise and how the ID cards will be treated.
